lonely people

lonely people

She told us the story of a beautiful woman. An older woman who took care of herself and looked good. Looking good was defined as having an attractive body, dressing well, and undergoing all possible cosmetic beauty treatments to preserve the remnants of youth.

She repeated to us several times about her hair how beautiful it was and so long, she said pointing to the middle of her back. She took care to get hair extensions. At this point all I could think about was how uncomfortable that might feel.

Her husband just bought her a spanking new red sports car. Whenever he sensed she was in need of an uplift, he asked her if she wanted to travel and he sent her off with her family or friends for a change of scenery.

When she was unhappy with the household staff, he immediately set things right and replaced them with new workers.

She told us he was the ideal husband in all ways that a woman might want. But one.

He hasn’t come close to her in years. He hasn’t touched her or said a loving word to her in ages. They were like brother and sister with no display of any affection. She said she has tried to seduce him with her manner and the way she dressed but it didn’t move him one bit.

So the women discussed this at length. Why after all these years does a man lose interest in his wife? Some of the women said he must have a mistress or another wife. No man can be so devoid of any interest in the opposite sex for years. Others said no, he was probably just tired and older and had lost interest. Others said that he must have seen something in his wife that turned him off for good but he was just too nice to break up a long-term relationship and had no interest in starting a new one.

Both people lonely and unable to communicate to each other their loneliness.

AbdulSamad Dashti - Candidate representing Kuwaiti Christians

AbdulSamad Dashti says he wants to run for Kuwaiti parliament in the coming elections. He  is running to represent Kuwaiti Christians who came to this country 150 years ago.

On a lighter seasonal note, Twitter user depicts Santa joining Kuwaiti buddies for some Machboos.

On another note, I found a cute photo on Twitter depicting Santa stopping by Kuwait for some machboos.

Kärtnerstrasse

As I walked down the street in the freezing cold, I heard the sweet voices of a little choir of four blind people.  It wasn’t raining yet, but it felt like the weather was about to change its mind. The wind chill dropped the temperature of the street 10 more degrees, but the blind people spread warmth inside everyone who passed by them. They never asked for money, they never stopped jollying.. they just sang.. sang away every gray feeling you would have on a cold December day. I looked at my watch. I wanted to  stand and listen more to the sweet little things that make you feel good about your life – strangers, yet spreading so much love and joy. I had to keep on moving though to get to my fiancée at the corner patisserie.

in the middle of the night

in the middle of the night

In the middle of the night

I go to the bathroom

Switch on the light

Sit on the toilet and

Look down at the white

bath rug.

—–

In the middle of the night

I looked down at the white

bath rug

and saw

a tiny,

solitary

black ant.

In the middle of the night

when I looked down

and saw the solitary black ant

my first instinct was to smash it.

How dare it intrude into my space?

And what was it looking for in the middle of the night

When all the ants were supposed to be asleep?

In the middle of the night

I pondered the fate

of the tiny solitary black ant

as I sat on the toilet

And then just as suddenly

decided that I would

not kill it

(For I had to sleep with

a relatively clear conscious)

In the middle of the night

I swooped the tiny

black ant

on the white bathroom

rug

and whisked it somewhere safe

until morning.

In the middle of the night

I flicked the solitary black ant into

the depths of my Jacuzzi

until the sunlight broke through

grey skies

the next morning.

Tell me one interesting fact about  Rosignano Marittimo, Tuscany.

Have you heard of  a city called Oxford in Ohio?  It is a college town of the Miami University.

There is a city called Moscow in Idaho. In November of 2011, the Ismat Ara and Abdul Mannan Sheikh Community Unity Award Celebration took place.

The biannual award, presented by the mayor, recognizes extraordinary contributions to diversity, inclusion, human rights, and public service in Moscow and the surrounding area. It honors the memory of two outstanding citizens for whom it is named. For years, the couple hosted Thanksgiving dinners, with an open invitation to anyone.” (link)

Bridgend is a town in Wales. Interestingly, its mayor was (is?) a Libyan called Suleman Hawas The article was written before the fall of the Libyan dictator.

Longmeadow, Massacusetts is  an affluent small town. This blog is a positive way to create a cohesive community.

Rosario, Santa Fe is the third largest city in Argentina.

Calamba Laguna is the resort capital of the Philippines.

The Romans founded the city of Cologne, Germany.

In 1990, Lithuania was the first Soviet republic to declare its independence.
