Voyeur Arrested

Voyeur Arrested

Recently in Kuwait, a man was arrested for voyeurism:

Arab expatriate in Salmiya arrested for watching husband and wife having sex

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 17: An Arab expatriate was arrested in Salmiya on charges of voyeurism.
Reportedly, a man discovered that the Arab had been watching from his balcony as he and his wife had sex, and immediately called the building watchman. The watchman then called up security officials, who arrived at the scene and arrested the accused.
He was referred to the authorities and a case was registered.

It makes me wonder where this couple was having sex. On the roof? On their balcony? In front of the windows?

Why weren’t their curtains closed?  Was the guy on the balcony supposed to avert his gaze and look at the pigeons flying in the sky? Why do people sit on their balconies anyway? Frankly if something juicy was happening within my view, I would definitely watch. Shamelessly, too.

It reminds me of this hilarious case in the USA a short while ago which is the opposite:

Man arrested for making coffee in his own home while naked

The American was in his own home, walking around naked. A woman and her son happened to pass by and reported him to police. Imagine  being fined and jailed for walking around naked in your home.

Whatever will happen when they start selling those spy goggles where you can see everything that happens behind closed doors?

  1. People really don’t have much common sense these days, I think sometimes that is what people are lacking in their judgment, like you said if the window is open people will look, so its their fault not the man’s and even if he liked watching! Lol

    • I think there are exhibitionists everywhere. I am sure there are some in Kuwait too, especially in all those new high rise buildings with windows looking into each other…

      hmmmmm

  2. People should be permitted to do as they choose on their own property, and everyone should be permitted to watch, as long as they do not go onto the other person’s property (i.e., no peeping Toms). If the couple was having sex in a way to be seen, then others should be free to watch. Evidently, one of the favorite pastimes in high-rise New York apartments is to watch other people in their apartments. If people don’t want to be seen, close the curtains.

    • Yes, closing the curtains is a good suggestion.

Now I am wondering about noise. If a couple were having loud sex, and the next door neighbour recorded them, and then played it back, full blast, could the couple sue?

  3. Jewaira, I am reminded of the great Alfred Hitchcock film, Rear Window, starring Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly, in which wheelchair bound photographer spies on his neighbours from his apartment window and becomes convinced that one of them has committed murder. Would the Kuwaiti officials have overlooked the crime of murder in lieu of the more serious crime of voyeurism? Interesting case.

  4. We used to have our own version of the “fat ugly naked guy” that they had on “Friends”. Huge man who walked around neked with the shades open. It was in an L-shaped building: anyone up and to the side could see. He didn’t care.

  5. Which one of us isn’t a voyeur here? “He that is without sin among you; let him be the first to cast a stone.”

Everytime I pass by your blog I feel almost a certified voyeur.
Many of us walk around naked in the privacy of our chalets and villas. Does that mean we have to be fully clothed in bed just because we live in Kuwait?

  6. I feel the mother and son who reported the American should be in the dock for evasion of, and intrusion into his privacy. Fact is the American did do no harm to anyone and that he was not an exhibitionist is besides the point. There was a similar instance in Tehran where an Iranian gentlemen had erected a vertiginously tall fence surrounding his private swimming pool so that his Western wife could swim. Unfortunately for her, there was a dickhead living in the adjacent compound who reported her to the authorities as he could see her everyday in her swimsuit, through the binoculars pointing out his bedroom window in the direction of the private pool. It’s a small world, innit?? – inhabited by petty people.

As strongly as I feel that muhajaba babes who drive on motorways should have their licenses revoked as they pose a clear and present danger to the safety of fellow motorists I also think parents who allow their under 5s in the front passenger seat with them need a whacking on their posterior.

    • You have touched upon many issues here! There are certainly nosy people everywhere.

I think you sound a bit sexist with your muhajababa babe comment – I have seen worse men drivers :P

And I really find it incomrehensible how some people still drive with children/ babies in their laps!!!

  7. Didn’t mean to sound sexist! You can be rest assured I have as much trouble with muhajababa dudes behind the wheels as I do with muhajababa babes :)

Somewhere down the line you need to ingrain safety consciousness into the national psyche of this country. Safety always comes first before civil liberties; falling short of which is a crime against civilised order. You do not let a pilot fly a commercial aircraft blindfolded because of a personal preference.

  8. So i see you are back in business, good i didn’t write you off :)

In such cases it is advised that you your self the watch, close the lights off, draw yur curtain get a binocular or telescope, use your eyes or attach a digi cam and watch the performance :)
