I was just turning into 4th Ring Road this morning around 8 o’clock when I saw the oddest scene that made me turn around gaping in disbelief.

On the shoulder turning into the Khaldia campus, a large white SUV was parked on the right hand side of the road. What caused me to do a double take at that moment was a man tripping on one of those little green signs on the pavement. He caught himself from falling, turned around in a rage and started to kick the little green sign. The first time he kicked it, it seems his toes hurt him so he collected himself and started to kick again even more viciously. So forceful was his rage that he lost his igal in the process of kicking and almost took another tumble.

I was shocked that a man of his age was behaving in that manner and without control. He was  wearing a short dishdasha and sported a red chmag [headdress] and a long straggly grey beard. Normally this attire would characterize him as a pious person but he sure wasn’t behaving spiritually at that time! I almost blew my horn at him as I passed by slowing down in my shock and oblivious to the cars behind me.   I was so disgusted with the way he was blatantly destroying public property in that maniacal manner.

I don’t know if he was letting someone off at that point, or if his car stopped along the road and he had gotten out to get help. All I know is that he was parked in a no parking zone and there is really no place to walk there (with a smallish pavement and then hedges).

I don’t know what that green sign was for: to mark some electrical or piping access but whatever it was, it sure didn’t warrant such an attack on a piece of metal.

If I were a man, I would have stopped and taken off my igal and wacked him with it black and blue for destroying public property like that.
