Baqqala Mischief March 5, 2007

On my way to the salon, I felt thirsty and in need of a bottle of water before my appointment. I parked my car in front of the little Baqqala taking care to remove my keys and lock the door before going into the little shop. (I never leave my car keys in the car because I always remember the story of the man who left his luxury car running to go into the baqqala and came out to find it was stolen. The guy who stole it took it for a date with his girlfriend. After he was finished, and had enjoyed both girl and car, he called the owner – don’t ask me how he got his number- and told him if he wanted his car in one piece to pick it up from a certain Co-Op without intervention from the police)

There were two middle-aged Iranian men of small build talking to each other as I entered the shop. When I had picked up the bottle of water from the fridge and turned to pay, I noted a man in his early thirties had just come in. He seemed to be Kuwaiti by his accent and he was dressed casually in track pants and a t-shirt.

He held out a 10 KD note and said to the shopkeeper: “Please give this money to a Chinese person[nafar] who will come by soon.”
The shopkeeper did not understand. So the man clarified that the shopkeeper should give it to a Chinese woman who was going to come by shortly. No need for a name or telephone number.

The shopkeeper repeated his wonder and looked at me at the same time: “How can you give me money and tell me to give it to someone whose name you don’t know? Why should I give the money to this person? For what?” He cast nervous looks at me.

I put on my best “suspicious” look as I shared a disdainful smirk with the shop keeper for a brief moment. Although I did not look at the man asking for the favour, I felt him squirm.

I walked out the shop hurriedly, as the man continued to persuade the shopkeeper.

Of course I could not help but wonder at why he was leaving 10 KD for an unknown Chinese woman in the Iranian man’s shop?

Well I only have two ideas in my head, other then that nothing at all. Nice of you to give him a dirty look too!

I thought most baqallas disappeared from a while ago, I see very few.

And like the template! :)

thanks Marzouq

not many baqqalas but in some areas they are still necessary.

She was Korean.

Possibly…but the guy said [nafar 9eeni] so I assumed she was Chinese. You may be right though…

She washes his car every day so that she has enough money to make a lunch to send to school with her daughter. This morning, the first of the month, he needed to pay her, but forgot he had taken all his friends out to dinner last night. She had to run to her job, but he told her he would go to the ATM, get cash and leave her 10KD at the bakkala so she would have the money to fix lunches for her poor little daughter.

Brilliant IntlXpatr! So positive :)

Nice story, very international background! ;)
I wouldn’t say sex, I mean if she was bad he wouldn’t have passed by the begala and leave the money there, and if she was good he would have called her again for another go.. Is there any other hidden character in the story ya jewaira?

By the way I LOVED the Flickr photo stream, oh my god, it is just marvelous.

———————

So glad you like the photos Mystique. I love sharing with you all.

No, no hidden characters. You get what you see (or read) :)

Intlxpatr (what a confusing nick with random letters stuck together! :P ), that’s actually too dramatic a scenario and one that can end on a sad note. We don’t want that to happen do we?

Hey Jewaira merge my comments together ;) . Thx

12. PseudoRandom - March 7, 2007

Oops forget about the merging bit, made a fool of myself :P , its coz i didnt refresh the page after i left my pc & came back after a while.
Anyway, ur smart enough ;) i’ll leave u to decide which bits to delete and which ones to keep.

Revenons à nos moutons,

1 of them looks like some woman’s about to pee, another 1 like she’s about to poo and the other ones just look wrong.
Well if you wanna do it properly, I think you should get some pictures of women eating one another’s poo or having what they call a golden shower :D !

Nevermind it was probably late at night and you were a bit dizzy….
I shall leave them as they are ;)

First of all, why would that man give 10 KD, to a shop keeper for no stated reason, and i don’t see the angle of sex or such services, as the money is like to small, may be for some oral services, what do you think, i don’t what the rates are ;) . Or job rate for such services.

My ISP has still maintained a blockade to flickr services. Stupid Stupid Etisalat .

Lady J, you always land in such situations, but i hope you are safe tho?

——————–

Am safe no worry

Tut! Tut! No Flickr? Poor thing :P
You don’t know what you are missing now!!!

Anyway, we are only imagining the reasons why he wanted to leave money with the Iranian shop keeper for an unknown Chinese woman

Sorry to tell you, PseudoRandom, but there is drama and sadness in Kuwait every single day.

Another possibility: she needs the 10KD to buy cough syrup so she can waitress at the man’s little Chinese restaurant. Or to go buy vegetables. It’s one of the cool things about Kuwait – anything is possible.

————–

Lol IntlXpatr
that is some expensive cough syrup! She must be chugging it down!
You’re right though, anything is possible and just like I said to Swair, sometimes our perceptions are skewed by the angle from which we view them, no? ;) Still doesn’t stop me from wondering though
Jewaira

15. Swair - March 7, 2007

weird… very weird..

————–

Weird yes…but don’t forget it was only one person’s viewpoint: mine. There could have been an entirely logical explanation but it was the way I saw it in that time span ;)

Ok !! I’m going into “the let us not jump into conclusions” mode :

** Maybe he borrowed the 10kd from the chinese girl whom he “doesnt know”and was just returning the money .

** She beat him on a bet and he’s paying up.

** it’s a down payment on a mutual deal between the kuwaiti government and the chinese government.

you see i dont always think bad thoughts ,,,, :P

——————

lol no you don’t! And those are pretty good…excuses :)

17. PseudoRandom - March 7, 2007

Wasn’t dizzy; too long to explain. But hey, you’re now publicly humiliating me!!!
