How odd that I chose to write about this incident today. I was surprised to see reviews of the film Human Trafficking on American Lifetime TV channel, aired as a two-part series:

* The Boston Globe: Disturbing 'Human Trafficking' captures brutality of sex slavery

* The Seattle Times: An unflinching but imperfect look at the world of sex slavery

Hi, I’ve enjoyed reading your blog. You definitely picked the Topic of the Week for this post. Every TV show I’ve seen recently (Crossing Jordan, Law & Order, etc) has had a thing about sex trafficking, not to mention that Lifetime mini-series.

Also, that post about the masseuse/prossy is hilarious!

It’s so sad to think that this can still happen in the modern world. I can’t imagine leaving home to try to better myself only to fall into the hands of someone who would force you to do this stuff. I bet every one of those women never thought it could happen to them. :(

Dear Jewaira,

Human Trafficking isn’t limited to the sex trade. Look outside your window at the street cleaners. Ask the hospital nurses how much they had o pay their handlers to get a job in kuwait, even home servants are traded by labour brokers… who expect a fee for finding them employment.

These people often take out loans and are indebted for a long periods of time to secure their jobs abroad.

I am sad to say… but we are the biggest consumers of Human trafficking in kuwait. Employers cram these laborers in conditions we cannot accept ourselves, and often fail to pay their dues. They have nowhere to express their grievances and unfortunately some uneducated police are violent towards them. They cannot leave the country without permission…. do I really need to go on.

By stripping a Human being of his dignity… you have effectively rendered him a commodity that is traded much like slaves.
