The Cinema January 30, 2005

Like many people, I enjoy going to the cinema for the big screen experience and doing a group activity with strangers. I have a high tolerance level for public misbehavior and am generally easy going. I grudgingly bear people who talk during the film and I scowl at those whose mobile phones go off. I have put up with children kicking the back of my seat, pulling my hair, and crying babies. I have endured the sounds of rustling popcorn bags and nachos being consumed by moviegoers and the slurps of coke as the straws draw up the last drops with some air.
But never have I had to sit through a movie like the one I did yesterday where I had trouble concentrating on the screen. We sat behind one unfortunate lady who had the misfortune of sitting in front of a young couple passionately engaged in a love-making marathon which lasted from the commercials till half an hour before the movie ended. They were going at it as though no one else was there. The poor single lady in front of us was clearly irate and kept looking sideways until she finally got up and sat on the farthest side of the theatre away from them. As the smooching got heavier and noisier, another woman sitting in front of them got up and moved, leaving us in full view of their performance.
Now, what was I to watch: the lovers or the film? Clearly things were getting very hot between them and it was a bit odd the way they kept adjusting themselves in their seats. At times her head suddenly disappeared beneath the seat level and came up suddenly. Then his head disappeared and resurfaced after a while.
It was disgusting. I don’t mean to sound like an evil prude but I could feel that she was an exhibitionist because she kept looking back. Why the hell was she looking back at us? At one point I met her gaze across the darkness with as disapproving a look as I could muster. But she didn’t care. I wondered why they didn’t just go somewhere else or even take the very back row for that purpose as they clearly were not into the movie. Shortly before the end of the film, she got up before him and left the theatre covering her head with her fur lined jacket as she walked down the aisle and he followed five minutes later, like a dog with his tail between his legs.

Sometimes it is infinitely more pleasurable to watch a movie with others in the cinema than it is on your own. And nothing serves to uplift the spirit more than a film full of comic situations where you lose yourself and forget all your worries and concerns. Tonight we went to see Meet the Fockers. How I laughed and laughed until my tummy ached and my eyes watered. How good it feels to laugh and release everything. It was certainly more therapeutic than my massage session. Good to forget and nice to feel silly.

lucky u for these hot experiences and i guess they r illegal couple or cheaters , i simply hate such relations although the good thing abt them is that they r full of advantures that real couples wont live
Jewaira kharra3tini! i forgot you were in London!

What Movie theatre you went to ?
Try going to Soho theatres you u will be amazed how ppl dont give a shit about the movie .. its just the feeling that they are out side in public having sex .
observe the fear and discomfort of people… what can you do.. its just nature in them,
its pritty amazing how people get attracted to romence and how curious they become when they see such a romantic theme in reality.Personally i find it very beautifull seen when to are enjoying being in public places (illegally) enjoying their passions, its adventurous and Hot. As it seems here that the girl wasn’t really enjoying the fact doind what she is doing in the theater she needs a room
What is also good about it is that how such seens flush the blood in our bodies and refresh great feelings that our hectic life made us forget about.
Thank you jewaira for blushing us again.
I would’ve understood if the movie was remotely erotic, but I don’t see how De Niro, Hoffman, Streisand could turn on ANY couple..
Instead of glaring at this girl, maybe you should’ve have given her the middle finger and said “Meet This Focker, motherfocker!!”
Oh I could never stand that Jewaira…I’m the type who shushes everyone…If I was in your place I would’ve spoke up and asked them to get a room or I would’ve talked to someone who works in the movie theatre to do something. I want enjoy my movie with no distractions
I dont know about you guys, but if I get to see two movies for the price of one I wont complain too much. And Meet the Fockers is an insult to all - true- movie fans.
Why is love making in a movie theater disgusting?
I thought thats why they turned the lights off so lovers can have some privacy.
Nothing wrong with exhibitionism…All Kuwaitis are exhibitionists by nature…So why are we complaining about others?!

You are in London dear; this is normal. You should have done what my aunt did once when she saw two lovers in an awkward position in Hyde Park. She approached them and said: ” why chithi sawi, mako hoos?” ( hoos= house)
ia m dying to see this movie. i am glad you had a good laugh .. cuz l am in need for one
man Rabab your aunt, 3anjad made me laugh she is fantastic I love Kuwaitie humor. man we gotta get together you and me AND your aunt.
Hello Antania & Welcome
Actually darling the girl was more than enjoying herself and didn’t need much more room from what I could see

Yes, it might be “nature but why should I have my movie experience disturbed by those who want to do something else? It is just like talking during the movie.

I did have a note that it was not in Kuwait but I deleted it since I thought everyone knew I was abroad.

It was great just to laugh & forget about everything.
And I am so sorry about the confusion guys!!!! The first part was a different day altogether- movie wasn’t that great. Which explains why there weren’t that many people in the theatre and the lovers were 3ala kayfhum.
We saw Meet the Fockers last night and it was a totally different thing altogether. We were all roaring with laughter. Nevertheless Zaydoun, your comment made me laugh!! Imagine.

Actually, I really think they were just a young couple who were meeting in secret because they had nowhere else and probably their families would disapprove. So I am just hinting at what their nationalities could be. Where else but a dark cinema, a boring film and in the middle of the day? Bas still, 3aib .
Darling, see what Rabab says? You’re in London 3adi. So I am the only prude who goes and complains? Shako? I’ll just complain to you guys
Rabab,
That is so funny. Actually, it is very normal to see people getting “affectionate here- no one bats an eyelid. But it wasn’t very pleasant in that situation.

Hmmm, the wise voice of experience talking. No, I think I’d rather not go to Soho movie theatres at this time

They turn the lights out so that you can enjoy the film. Lovemaking is not disgusting at all; but when it interferes with your enjoyment of the film, yes I would say the situation is annoying to say the least.
And Meet the Fockers is made for people like me. I am not a movie connoisseur nor do I care much about film. What I care about is what the movie does to me when I watch it and frankly I want to laugh and enjoy it without thinking about how insulting it is to true movie art & creativity.
You are right that many Kuwaitis are exhibitionists- but I am not and I cannot understand it. That is why it annoys me to do something for show.
i was once in salmiya’s high street buskin robins, upstairs reading a magazine & having a bite.
I was all alone there, no one else, when a couple walked in & had a quick peek into the place to make sure it was empty (somehow they didn’t spot me) & grabbed hold of each other wo hat ya smoooooooooooooooooch..lol
I went up to the guy & tapped him on the shoulder… well he almost dropped dead..lol
I told him that showing his emotions for the lady publicly in kuwait the way he did will cause him to have that done to him by a cop..
Brachy
You must have been very amused ha?
worried for them actually
